Professional Diploma in Pharmaceutical Management

Course Curriculum

Specialization

The Course has been uniquely designed on the lines of American Business Schools wherein a dual specialization is offered to the students. Thus the student can select their series of combinations of major and minor specialization depending on their qualification. This enables the students to better appreciate the problems of Pharmaceutical management and also enhances their career opportunities. The course is extremely rigorous in nature and is designed to strike the right balance between theory and practice and thus wholly develop the managerial abilities of the students. Functional areas of specialization offered to the students are Pharma Sales & Marketing Management, Pharma Product management & Pharma Production Management. The details about the specializations are given below:

Pharmaceutical Product Management

This specialization focuses on marketing issues in the pharmaceutical industry. Marketing of both patent protected and generic drugs & management of generic competition including market analysis, market planning, new product launches and commercialization of pharmaceutical products shall be studied.

The interface between R&D, marketing & sales, product & brand management, pricing, distribution, retailing and promotional issues within the pharmaceutical industry will be covered. Relationship of product management with other functions like sales and marketing, pre-marketing awareness, launch planning, budget setting and allocation of resources for promotions will be examined. Regulatory issues including labeling, advertising claims will be studied. The impact of the health care environment within which marketing takes place will also be covered. It also focuses on the marketing research process and steps involved in a marketing research study. While the primary emphasis will be on the Indian pharmaceutical industry, attention will also be paid to the Global Pharma Industry.

This specialization will use an Industry Specific Consulting Project Model, with opportunity to launch a product in market. Through the specialization in Pharma Product Management the student will be prepared to be highly creative in designing, advertising and promotional tools. The student will analyze customer wants & needs and propose & develop solutions, manage the process of bringing a new, multi million dollar product to the marketplace.

Pharmaceutical Production Management

The course objective is to give the students an insight in manufacturing the drugs & formulations, an in-depth understanding of both the science and technology behind developing safe and effective drug products and the regulations that mandate much of what is required. This course gives a comprehensive knowledge of the GMP & USFDA Regulations that govern the drug development process for both innovative, generic, and OTC drug products.

The manufacturing process & regulatory environment for drug development is constantly changing. Students will find this course to be an excellent up-to-date resource for understanding the latest manufacturing process & regulations related to the development and manufacture of pharmaceutical products and for becoming more effective, productive, and cost-effective personnel in executing the job responsibilities
